The Native American logo that is on every part of the hotel is actually chief Little Shield. Who is of the North Cheyenne tribe. The fable goes, that in 1915 the Chief brought some of his tribe with him to Cheyenne Frontier Days he stayed in the Plains Hotel, but his guests stayed in tipis at Frontier Park. The legend says, he was known to wash up in the trough across from the hotel, when coming from the plains. And would do so before visiting with his friends inside the Plains Hotel. It is also said that still to this day his descendants come and stay at the plains Hotel during the Cheyenne Frontier Days.

This is all myth. Chief Little Shield died in a battle with U.S Army in 1879. The hotel was built in 1911. But it is a great story.

The most popular ghost story of the hotels is about a woman named Rosie.

Rosie was married on the mezzanine of the hotel. Rosie and her groom were guest in Room 226. According to a medium, the groom’s name was Franklin. That evening, the groom went to the lounge to enjoy a few drinks and cigars. While in the lounge, he met a prostitute. He was gone for a long time. So Rosie went looking for him. Looking down into the lobby from the mezzanine, she found him and the prostitute chatting and laughing at the bar. Rosie watched as her new groom and the prostitute in a red dress headed upstairs. She followed them to the woman’s room 444. Rosie went back to room 226 where she got a gun. And in a jealous rage, she shot the two of them. Then she returned to their honeymoon suite and killed herself. The spirits of the three have been frequently seen by employees and guests of the hotel.
